I was eating lunch in the cafeteria at work today and saw something that I see far too often. An extremely overweight kid, not more than 8 or 9. I'm not talking about a chubby or husky kid, this poor kid needed to climb onto the chair. One hand, followed by one leg, then the other hand, then the last leg and then a 180 degree turn. After all that work, he was finally able to settle in to eat his (quick, take a guess at what he was eating) ... if you guess a Big Mac and fries, congratulations..
Now you can't blame the kid for that. It's not his fault, he can't cook he doesn't buy the groceries. He was on a field trip with his school and instead of his parents packing him a lunch they just gave him $6 for lunch. That's just irresponsible parenting.
The experts say we have a childhood obesity epidemic and when you see things like that it's not hard to understand why. I'm not trying to preach, but it just boggles my mind that a parent could watch their kid get like that and not do anything about it.
So I did a very quick search and found this article about teaching healthy eating habits to children. It's a must read for any parent out there:
